How Evaporative Air Coolers Work

Evaporative air coolers stream water onto a porous pad, which is then evaporated while a fan inside the unit blows the cooler air into your workspace, thereby cooling it down. Units can be roof or wall mounted or can be standalone coolers. They can have a water tank connected to them or be connected to your plumbing pipes.

Cleaning The Exterior

The first step in the cleaning or maintenance of any electrical appliance is to power it off and unplug it to protect yourself. Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals as they could damage the paint of the cooler.

Cleaning The Cooling Pads

The cooling pads can be soaked in a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water and then left to dry while the filter pad compartment is cleaned with soap and water. Allow your cooling pads time to dry weekly or monthly to avoid mould growth. Regular sun exposure is a great way to kill off any bacteria.

Water Tank Cleanliness

The water tank, as well as the water in the tank, must be clean to ensure maximum efficiency as well as higher air quality. Drain the water tank and clean it weekly before replenishing it with fresh water. Ensure that the water tank always has a sufficient amount of water in it to prevent it running dry.

Wipe the fan blades with a damp cloth and lubricate the motor shaft once a year to keep them the fan in proper working order. 

Change Of Seasons

When going into winter, or when you won’t use the evaporative air cooler for a length of time, empty the tank and clean the entire system thoroughly before placing the cooler in a dry, safe place for storage.
